The Nathan Surquin 4tet is a contemporary jazz ensemble bringing together four musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds: Nathan Surquin (Belgium) on trombone, Wajdi Riahi (Tunisia) on piano, Federico Stocchi (Italy) on double bass, and Daniel Jonkers (The Netherlands) on drums.
Their music, both sensitive and dynamic, highlights the dialogue between cultures, shared emotions, and the depth of human encounters. The quartet’s debut album, entitled Ambre, is an ode to these encounters: those that occur during a journey or over a cup of coffee, between people from different backgrounds; the meeting of two kindred spirits; or that between a father and his daughter. The album translates these fragments of life into sound — intimate exchanges that nourish our existence.
The richness of the project lies in the cultural diversity of its members. Each musician brings personal influences, musical roots, and their own artistic language. Together, they create a sound that is coherent, profound, and distinctive. It is this natural alchemy — born from the fusion of cultures, journeys, and sensibilities — that gives Ambre its unique voice.
